Does Nomad AI send my data to the cloud?
No. Nomad AI runs entirely on your device. Your conversations, documents, and notes never leave your phone or Mac. There are no servers, no telemetry, and no cloud storage involved.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. Once you download an AI model, Nomad AI works completely offline. You can chat, query documents, and take notes with zero internet connectivity. Web search is the only feature that requires a connection, and it can be toggled off.
Which AI models are supported?
Nomad AI supports multiple open-source models including Llama 3.2 (3B), DeepSeek R1 Distill, and TinyLlama (1.1B). You can download and switch between them in the app. You can also connect to a self-hosted Ollama server for access to even larger models.
What is Document Q&A and how does it work?
Document Q&A lets you import PDFs, photos (via OCR), or raw text into a local knowledge base organized in collections. Nomad AI creates vector embeddings on-device using MiniLM and uses semantic search to retrieve the most relevant passages when you ask a question — like a private research assistant that only uses your data.

Nomad AI is free to download and use with all core features. Optional premium features are available through a one-time in-app purchase — no subscriptions, no recurring fees.
How is my data protected?
All data is stored in encrypted local storage (MMKV). You can enable Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN to lock the app. There's also an incognito mode for conversations you don't want saved at all.
